Y.E.L.P.

Youth Empowerment & Leadership Program

Our 5-Week Youth Empowerment and Leadership Program is the Basis for all other programs designed and delivered by Manaia.

Y.E.L.P. participants are engaged in three days of interactive processes, activities and conversations that focus on the day-to-day issues we all face in our development as individuals. The program is designed to identify the beliefs and behaviors that limit us as from our full potential and once identified make the adjustments to move forward in our lives.

After the three day workshop, participants come back together for five, 3-hour long follow-up sessions held once per week. This provides the opportunity to strengthen their connection and be supported by one another as they put newly learned skills into action.

STRIDE

A year-long program for at-risk 9th graders

(Currently in development)

Stride is a year-long program and is targeted at youth who are struggling going into their Freshman year (9th grade) of High School. Participants will be identified during the final months of their 8th grade year.

The program will consist of a 5-day intensive overnight camp/workshop where the students will be joined by Adult Advocates, key school staff and administrators.

The Adult Advocates will be matched with a small group of students who they will work with intensively throughout the school year. They will provide continuous monitoring by checking in with the students, their teachers and their parent/guardians. Advocates will also provide up to four tutoring and support sessions per week and additional service coordination as needed.

The full group will continue to meet together once a month, and a mid-year weekend retreat. Additional components will include tailored learning environments, community engagement through service opportunities, additional life skills training opportunities and specialized family programming throughout the year.
