STRIDE
A
year-long program for at-risk 9th graders
(Currently
in development)
Stride is a year-long
program and is targeted at youth who are struggling going into their
Freshman year (9th grade) of High School. Participants will be
identified during the final months of their 8th grade year.
The program will consist of
a 5-day intensive overnight camp/workshop where the students will be
joined by Adult Advocates, key school staff and
administrators.
The Adult Advocates will be
matched with a small group of students who they will work with
intensively throughout the school year. They will provide continuous
monitoring by checking in with the students, their teachers and
their parent/guardians. Advocates will also provide up to four
tutoring and support sessions per week and additional service
coordination as needed.
The full group will continue
to meet together once a month, and a mid-year weekend retreat.
Additional components will include tailored learning environments,
community engagement through service opportunities, additional life
skills training opportunities and specialized family programming
throughout the year.
